For the second time I met Catherine in Phnom Penh. The first time we met was at the WIG-fair (which has proven to be a very good networking-location). Catherine is not just a very nice lady, she is also the founder of Open Book.
Open Book is a local Non-Government Organization (NGO) with the goal of sharing and improving the pleasure of reading, especially for the children in Cambodia.
The first Open Book was created in 2002. In 2018, Open Book has 5 community libraries around Cambodia, 3 in Phnom Penh and 2 in the country side, open to all.
Open Book also publishes quality books for children and young adults: “Open Book Editions“. Selling these books in Cambodia and around the world helps the local NGO become financially sustainable.
At the WIG-fair I already saw a number of these Open Book Editions. They are fantastic. Also then I had the feeling that we probably could help each other…..
We had a pleasant and positive meeting in which we decided that same day to start selling each other’s products.
And that is why I took the (in the meantime empty because I had dropped a big bag of books and games at the school that I visited the day before) suitcase and filled it with new Open Book Editions……. Panha Sabay is going to extend the shop in the J&R Waffle Bar.
In Phnom Penh ontmoette ik voor de tweede keer Catherine. Ik leerde haar kennen op de WIG-fair (dat is een primaplek om te netwerken gebleken). Catherine is naast een hele aardige vrouw ook de oprichtster van Open Book.
Open Book is een lokale NGO (Non-Government Organisation) met als doelstelling om het plezier van lezen te verbeteren en te delen, vooral voor de kinderen van Cambodja.
Open Book heeft 5 wijk of dorps bibliotheekjes in Cambodja, 3 in Phnom Penh en 2 op het platte land. Deze bibliotheekjes zijn open voor iedereen. De eerste bibliotheek werd geopend in2002.
Open Book geeft ook kwaliteits-boeken uit voor kinderen en jong-volwassenen: “Open Boek Edities”. De verkoop van deze boeken in Cambodja en de rest van de wereld helpt de lokale NGO om financieel onafhankelijk(er) te worden.
Op de WIG fair had ik al kennis gemaakt met een paar van deze Open Boek Edities. Deze zijn geweldig. En ook toen bekroop me al het gevoel dat we elkaar waarschijnlijk zouden kunnen helpen……
We hadden een gezellige en positieve ontmoeting waarin we diezelfde dag nog besloten dat we elkaars producten zouden gaan verkopen.
Dus heb ik die (inmiddels lege want ik had de boeken en spelletjes die ik meenam achtergelaten bij het schooltje waar ik de dag ervoor was geweest) koffer volgeladen met Open Boek Edities……. Panha Sabay gaat de winkel in de J&R Waffle Bar uitbreiden.
