I had my first experience with the Community Eco Fair in March. The Community Eco Fair is a monthly event, where organizations who are social and/or eco-friendly in any way can present themselves. There are also workshops, sometimes music and all this is in the garden of bar-restaurant The Republic. So food and drinks are close by. I really like the idea of such an event. But there is a problem…… low season and (thus) very few visitors.
Yesterday (always the second Sunday of the month) we had the “July-Eco-Fair”. The atmosphere and the weather were excellent (dry but cloudy and therefore not too hot). But unfortunately also this time there were hardly any visitors and that is really a pity. With a few organizations we will soon talk about this and see how we can improve. I think there are definitely opportunities for improvement and the coming months slowly more tourists will come to Siem Reap. That will help for sure.
For Panha Sabay yesterday’s Eco Fair had its value. We showed the new Roopkom Kids for the first time. And the few visitors were all very positive about the puzzle and the fact that it is made of used water bottles. We even sold 3 of them. And I talked to new people which could lead to new possibilities, so… for me it was a great afternoon.
In maart maakte ik voor het eerst een Community Eco Fair mee. De Community Eco Fair is een maandelijks braderie-achtig-evenement waarbij organisaties in Siem Reap die iets “milieuvriendelijks” te bieden hebben, zich kunnen presenteren. Daarnaast worden er workshops aangeboden en is er soms muziek en dit alles vind dan plaats in de tuin van café-restaurant De Republic. Er is dus ook eten en drinken in de buurt. Ik vind dit evenement in principe een erg leuk initiatief. Maar er is wel een probleem….. laag seizoen en (dus) erg weinig bezoekers.
Gisteren (altijd de tweede zondag van de maand) was er “juli-Eco-Fair”. De sfeer en het weer waren uitstekend (droog maar wel bewolkt dus niet overdreven warm). Maar helaas kwamen er ook deze keer nauwelijks bezoekers en dat is natuurlijk super jammer. Met een paar deelnemers gaan we binnenkort rond de tafel om dit te proberen te verbeteren. Er zijn in mijn ogen wel een aantal verbeterpunten en de komende maanden zal het langzaamaan ook weer wat drukker worden met toeristen, dus dat zal zeker helpen.
Voor Panha Sabay was de Eco Fair ook gisteren wel degelijk de moeite waard. Roopkom Kids was voor het eerst in het echt te bewonderen en de paar bezoekers die er waren, waren allemaal zeer positief over de puzzel en over het feit dat die is gemaakt van gebruikte waterflesjes. We hebben er zelfs (maar liefst) 3 verkocht. En er zijn weer contacten gelegd voor nieuwe mogelijkheden, dus….. ik heb toch een topmiddag gehad.
